Harris Methodist Northwest Employees Honored for Decades of Service

AZLE, Texas – Harris Methodist Northwest Hospital (HMNW) employees say that the close-knit ties between community and hospital have kept them coming back for decades of work.

“Our employees make all the difference creating an environment where patient’s needs are met and exceeded,” said Winjie Tang Miao, president of HMNW. “Long-time employees are particularly important to our hospital because their wealth of experience provides the backbone to provide the best care possible to our patients. Their contributions enable us to better serve the residents of Azle and the surrounding areas.”

Valarie Gilbert, R.N., recently celebrated her 30th anniversary with Texas Health Resources (THR). She has worked at Harris Methodist Northwest since 1999 as chief nurse executive.

Gilbert enjoys working at the hospital because of the size of the facility enables hospital management and staff to quickly implement changes and try innovative programs.

“There are just all kinds of things that can happen in this hospital and we can create ways to enhance patient care,” she said, citing improvements in procedures for heart attack and stroke patients that enable individuals to receive fast and efficient care locally.

Susan Stokes, R.N., works the night shift and said she’s enjoyed 30 years of new challenges and opportunities.

“I am tremendously honored to work with such a truly great group of nurses and managers,” Stokes said. “Teamwork and nursing excellence are reflected in the hospital’s high patient satisfaction scores. I am so proud, every day, to be part of this winning team.”

Dianne Barnett recently celebrated her 25th anniversary with the Harris Methodist Northwest Hospital. Barnett has worked in the lab as a medical lab technician for her entire career and says that she’s seen the services at the hospital grow tremendously.

“It’s a chance to change lives hopefully for the better,” Barnett said. “THR and HMNW have provided me with the tools I need to do what I love, so what could be better than that?”

Patricia Grauman has worked at the hospital a total of 20 years. Grauman worked at the hospital for three years in the mid-1980s before briefly leaving. For the past 17 years, she’s served as a food service supervisor.

Grauman credits her shared philosophy with the hospital and a generally happy work environment to her long tenure.

“They tell us over and over again that everyone here is our customer and everyone should be treated with respect,” Grauman said. “They really believe that and I do too.”

Cindy Marlin has spent 20 years working in the medical records department, most recently as a coder. She said she likes the closeness that comes from working in a smaller facility. “We give more individualized attention because we pretty much know our clients,” she said.

Including the Harris Methodist Northwest Hospital employees, Texas Health Resources honored 400 employees with 20 or more years of service and two dozen volunteers, totaling 10,485 years, at a recent banquet.
