AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Hospital Association recognized Barclay E. Berdan, FACHE, chief operating officer and senior executive vice president of Texas Health Resources, as the 2013 recipient of the Earl M. Collier Award for Distinguished Health Care Administration. Berdan will receive the award Feb. 13 at the THA 2013 Annual Conference and Expo in San Antonio.
Overseeing a system with more than 21,000 employees and $3.7 billion in operating revenue, Berdan was selected in recognition of his professional achievements and far-sighted focus on health care.
“Texas hospitals account for successes each and every day due to the commitment and leadership from intrepid health care professionals like Barclay Berdan,” said Ted Shaw, THA president/chief executive officer.
For 36 years, Berdan has shown a passion for innovative thinking and providing leadership in other community and professional organizations. As COO of Texas Health, Berdan is responsible for all operations of the system, including the administrative leadership of three geographical zones in north Texas. The unique leadership structure is a direct response to the system’s long-term strategic planning, which includes evolving the organization to focus on the full continuum of health care and wellness services to patients while also integrating more physicians and clinicians into active leadership roles.
