Dallas TV and Radio Personality Suzie Humphreys to speak at National Cancer Survivors Day at Texas Health Plano

PLANO, Texas — She’s back! Cancer survivor, motivational speaker and legendary Dallas television and radio personality Suzie Humphreys, formerly of WFAA-TV (Channel 8) and KVIL-FM (103.7), will bring her compelling message of facing life’s failures and accomplishments with laughter, honesty and acceptance to Plano.

As keynote speaker at the second annual “Celebration of Life” event in honor of National Cancer Survivors Day, hosted by Texas Health Presbyterian Hospitals Plano and Allen, Humphreys will relate poignant, humorous stories about her life, including dealing with cancer, husband and children, an aging mother, jobs or lack of them, and more.

Humphreys has traveled around the country, delivering presentations to more than 2,000 organizations and companies, making the point that, regardless of the situation, “it is NOT the problem that’s the problem, it is my thinking about the problem.”

Humphreys’ presentation, titled “We’re ALL Walking Around with IT,” will focus on facing fears and “shrinking them.” Her message includes finding humor in the midst of desperation, learning not to fear or regret, not saying “I can’t” or “it’s too hard,” and other inspirational ideas.

“We’re so used to being unhappy or scared about something that we consider it normal,” Humphreys said. “For some, it has even become a comfort zone. Facing our fears is exactly the trick to shrinking them. Rather than trying to escape them, what if, instead, we just confronted and accepted them? After all, before a situation can be transformed, it must first be accepted.”

Humphreys was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003. In nine days, she had a mastectomy and returned to the speaking circuit, addressing an audience of 900 in Las Vegas. After her presentation, she collapsed, “cried for a week, slept when not crying and then came through the dark with an understanding that has helped her find the compassion for other survivors.”

Texas Health’s free “Celebration of Life” event is scheduled from 1 to 3:30 p.m., Sunday, June 7, and is for cancer survivors and their families and friends. It will be held at Texas Health Plano, 6200 West Parker Road, in the first floor lobby of Tower C. Humphreys will speak at 1:30. For more information, please call 972 981-8643.
