Business Group Honors Texas Health as a Best Employer for Healthy Lifestyles|
ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Health Resources, the largest health care system in North Texas in terms of patients served, announced today that it has received the 2010 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles award. The award was presented to 66 employers at the Leadership Summit sponsored by the National Business Group on Health’s Institute on Innovation in Workforce Well-being for commitment and dedication to promoting a healthy workplace and encouraging their workers and families to support and maintain healthy lifestyles.
Texas Health received a silver award for its Total Health program. The purpose of the Total Health program is to provide awareness, education and intervention opportunities so members can make informed lifestyle decisions. Of those who are eligible for benefits, 90 percent have completed a health assessment. This data is used to continually improve health and wellness program components and measure progress.
Key program elements are health advocacy, disease management, tobacco cessation, on-site fitness centers, fitness challenges, employee assistance program (EAP), lifestyle coaching, on-site Weight Watchers classes, medical nutrition therapy, diabetes education, a maternity support program, on-site hospital case managers and an incentive plan called “Be Healthy.”
Employees can earn up to $300 per year by participating in the program.

Winners of the Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles awards were honored in one of three categories:
- Platinum -- For established workplace well-being programs with measurable success and documented outcomes.
- Gold -- For creating cultural and environmental changes that support employees who are committed to long-term behavior changes.
- Silver -- For employers that have launched significant programs or services to promote living a healthier lifestyle.
