Breastfeeding Resources

The Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth Breastfeeding Resource Center and Boutique is staffed with registered nurses who are International Board Certified Lactation Consultants. They can assess a mother and baby's progress, making recommendations that can prolong and enhance breastfeeding. Assistance in communication with other appropriate health care providers can also help with early interventions before small difficulties become overwhelming problems.

Lactation consultants can also assist with ongoing questions throughout the breastfeeding experience, including:

  • Preventing and managing sore nipples
  • Latch-On difficulties
  • Preventing and managing engorgement
  • Milk supply concerns
  • Multiple births
  • Returning to work
  • Slow weight gain or weight loss
  • Mastitis/breast abcess
  • "Baby Blues" or fatigue
  • Anatomical variations (mother and baby)
  • Prematurity
  • Sucking problems
  • Refusal to nurse
  • Induced lactation (i.e., adoption), relactation
  • Jaundice
  • Drugs and medications while breastfeeding
