Preparation for Your Imaging Service

It is important to follow the instructions for your imaging service. When you schedule an appointment, preparation steps will be discussed with you. Not following the instructions may cause your imaging service to be rescheduled. If you have any questions about your instructions, please contact us at 817-250-3933 or 1-866-234-SCAN (7226).

To prepare for your imaging services, do not eat or drink anything after midnight prior to the procedure except for prescribed medication with small amounts of water. Do not wear a shirt or pants with metal buttons or zippers or an underwire bra. If you would like to change clothes, a dressing room is available.

Preparing for Your SmartScoreTM Heart Scan
To prepare for your SmartScoreTM Heart Scan, do not eat or drink anything which contains caffeine for four hours prior to the procedure. This includes but is not limited to chocolate, vitamins, "pep pills," or caffeinated coffee, tea or sodas. Do not wear a shirt with metal buttons or an underwire bra. If you would like to change clothes, a dressing room is available.

Preparing for Your Virtual Colonoscopy
Purchase the following ahead of time:

  • Four(4) Dulcolax tablets (do not need prescription)
  • One(1) 8oz bottle of Miralax (do not need prescription)
  • Two(2) 64-oz bottles of Gatorade (no red flavors)

One day prior to your colonoscopy:

  • Start on a clear liquid diet when you get up and continue all day clear liquid diet:
    • No solid food of any kind
    • Soups: clear bouillon, chicken broth, vegetable broth, beef broth, or consomme
    • Beverages: Tea, coffee (without cream, milk), Kool-aid, carbonated drinks, Gatorade
    • You may add sugar to coffee and tea
    • Do not drink red or purple colored beverages or eat red Jell-O
    • Juices: Apple, lemonade, and orange drink
    • Any juice that you can see through and has no pulp is acceptable
    • Dessert: Italian ices, popsicles, Jell-O and hard candy
  • Throughout the day, make sure to drink at least eight glasses of fluids such as Gatorade or similar product (preferable no plain water).
  • Take your usual prescription medications including Diabetic medications (except iron).
  • 1 PM - take four (4) Dulcolax tablets by mouth with 32oz of Gatorade
  • 3 PM - Mix the 8oz of Miralax in 64oz of Gatorade. Shake the solution until the Miralax is dissolved.
  • Drink 8oz every 10-15 minutes until the entire solution is gone.
  • Drink an additional 32oz of any clear liquids (without Miralax) over the next one to two hours
  • Remember to remain close to toilet facilities

The morning of your examination:

  • You should take your regular medications with small amounts of water unless otherwise instructed by your physican.
  • Do not eat or drink anything the morning of your exam until your exam is complete.

Preparing for Your Lung Scan
No special dietary preparation is required for a lung scan. Do not wear a shirt with metal buttons or an underwire bra. If you would like to change clothes, a dressing room is available.

Preparing for Your Abdomen Scan
To prepare for your abdomen scan, do not eat or drink anything after midnight prior to the procedure except for prescribed medications with small amounts of water. Do not wear a shirt or pants with metal buttons or zippers or an underwire bra. If you would like to change clothes, a dressing room is available.

Preparing for Your Pelvic Scan
To prepare for your pelvic scan, do not eat or drink anything after midnight prior to the procedure except for prescribed medications with small amounts of water. Do not wear a shirt or pants with metal buttons or zippers or an underwire bra. If you would like to change clothes, a dressing room is available.

Preparing for Your Health Scan Package
To prepare for your Health Scan, do not eat or drink anything after midnight prior to the procedures except for prescribed medications with small amounts of water.
