I’m Doug Hawthorne, CEO of Texas Health Resources, with “The Business of Health Care Report.”
Texas Health Resources accomplished much in 2013 on our journey to become the vanguard of well-being in North Texas. Physician-directed population health became more than just a phrase of buzz words. Texas Health began to make it a reality for the people of the communities we serve and help them understand what that really means for their future health.
We publicly staked out the high ground among health systems nation-wide for transparency and accountability for outcomes. We said to our customers and to ourselves – transparency inspires improvement. We are committed to continuous improvement and accountability.
In 2013, Texas Health was recognized not only as the largest employer in the D/FW Metroplex but also as one of the very best by several organizations. The high point of recognition for Texas Health came when we were recognized with the Texas Award for Performance Excellence.
In 2014, we’ll continue transforming health care as we collaborate with community leaders and other health care organizations to improve well-being in North Texas.
For example, we will introduce the Well-Being Score and encourage the people of North Texas to “know your score.” We’ll explain why the score is important to their health and educate them about how to improve their score.
We believe 2014 will be a great year for the communities of North Texas. Happy New Year!
For our faith-based family of hospitals — Texas Health Presbyterian, Texas Health Harris Methodist and Texas Health Arlington Memorial — I’m Doug Hawthorne.
