Chief Medical Information Officer at Texas Health Hurst-Euless-Bedford Receives Award
07/06/2010

BEDFORD, Texas — Dr. Bob Rowland, Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Hurst-Euless-Bedford’s chief medical information officer, has been awarded the “CareConnect Champion Achievement Award.”

The award is given within the Texas Health System to an individual who provided crucial support and guidance to facilities implementing an electronic health record. Rowland oversaw implementation at Texas Health HEB, but also helped assist Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth with the transition to the system.

“Dr. Rowland exhibited a can-do attitude that was contagious during the stressful months preparing for implementation,” said Mona Myers, Texas Health HEB’s physician trainer. “Dr. Rowland proved to always be available and ready to help.”

Rowland was involved with the entire implementation process, from ordering the hardware and software to training physicians and employees to use the system, said Kurt Crawford, IT manager at Texas Health HEB. The hospital went live with an electronic record system in November.

“We couldn’t have done this without Dr. Rowland’s support and energy,” Crawford said. “The impact of our successful installation will be felt by patients, employees and physicians on the medical staff for years to come.”

Rowland said he was humbled by the award, which he says ties back to what he has committed to do each day. “I appreciate the recognition, but an even greater award is the success that we have had implementing the electronic record system, which will benefit our patients and health care providers,” he said.

His support hasn’t just been limited to the nuts and bolts related to switching to an electronic system. He has participated in hospital fundraisers for local charities that had him taking a turn in a dunking booth and he is quick to entertain the staff with costumes at various meetings.

“We are blessed to have Dr. Rowland working at Texas Health HEB,” said Deborah Paganelli, FACHE, hospital president. “He has demonstrated his commitment to his coworkers and the physician on the medical staff in so many ways. He exemplifies the Texas Health spirit of helping to improve the health of people in the communities we serve whether it’s behind the scenes working on infrastructure or rolling up his sleeves for charity.”
