Patsy Youngs Named President of Presbyterian Hospital of Kaufman

KAUFMAN, Texas – Presbyterian Hospital of Kaufman (PHK) announced today that Patsy Youngs, a long-time health care administrator, has been appointed as the new president of the hospital effective in September 2006.

Mark H. Merrill, president of Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas and executive vice president of Texas Health Resources, parent organization of PHK, announced the appointment saying, “Patsy Youngs will provide a continuation of the strong leadership that has made this hospital a vital part of its communities, fostering the physical, spiritual and economic well-being of the people the hospital serves. She brings to PHK a solid clinical, operational and leadership background and broad-based experience in a diverse group of health care organizations in both nonprofit and for-profit settings.”

Since beginning her health care career more than 30 years ago as a registered nurse, Ms. Youngs has served in a number of leadership positions. She currently is administrator of Presbyterian Hospital of Commerce and chief operating officer of Hunt Memorial Hospital District (HMHD).

“I'm proud to be joining a hospital that recently received an award as one of the top five hospitals in the nation in preventing community acquired pneumonia,” Youngs said. “That's a sign of commitment to quality, and I salute the employees and physicians on the medical staff for their dedication to quality patient care. I promise to continue the collaborative spirit that makes such accomplishments possible.”

Carl Stapp, chairman of the hospital's board of trustees, said, “On behalf of the community, I welcome Patsy Youngs. We're very proud of the contributions the hospital, its employees and the physicians on the medical staff have made to our community. We look forward to working with Patsy to continue to improve the health of the people of Kaufman and Henderson counties.”

“One of the qualities THR looks for in a leader is someone who embraces our faith-based heritage and knows what it takes to deliver quality health care in a safe environment,” said Doug Hawthorne, president and CEO of THR. “Patsy Youngs understands Presbyterian Hospital of Kaufman's commitment to provide patients with quality care in a compassionate, community-centered environment. As the population of Kaufman and Henderson counties continues to grow and age, it will be increasingly important that the hospital is able to provide advanced medical care close to home through its ties to the Texas Health Resources family of hospitals.”

Youngs succeeds Kirk King, former president of PHK, who became president of THR's Harris Methodist HEB Hospital in December 2005. During the search for a new president, John Beall, chief nursing officer at PHK, has acted as interim president of the hospital. The search committee included members of the hospital's board of trustees, THR and hospital executives and physician leadership.

Before joining HMHD in 1997, Youngs worked in management positions at Columbia Bay Area Medical Center in Corpus Christi, St. Tammany Parrish Hospital in Covington, La. and Mercy Hospital in New Orleans.

She earned a diploma in nursing from Touro Infirmary School of Nursing in New Orleans, a master of business administration from Florida Institute of Technology's New Orleans campus and a bachelor of science in health science from Holy Cross College, also in New Orleans.

Youngs has been an active member of the community, serving as president of the Northeast Children's Museum in Commerce, as well as serving many other civic and professional organizations.

Youngs has six children and three grandchildren with a fourth grandchild due any day. She and husband Ike Youngs have been married for 24 years. Patsy and Ike are both active in the Lions Club and Rotary Club and love shopping for antiques. They plan to move to the Kaufman area in the near future.
