Texas Health Kaufman Earns National Recognition for Respiratory Care Services

KAUFMAN, Texas — Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Kaufman is one of only 15 percent of U.S. hospitals to earn the Quality Respiratory Care Recognition from the American Association for Respiratory Care.

“Texas Health Kaufman’s respiratory care staff works diligently to ensure that a high level of care is available to our patients,” said Trisha Scarborough, R.R.T., manager of respiratory therapy at Texas Health Kaufman. “We are thrilled at the validation of our work.”

The national recognition program is designed to help patients and families make informed decisions and choose hospitals with high-quality respiratory care services. The program began in 2003 to help patients and their families find qualified respiratory therapists.

To qualify for the award, Texas Health Kaufman demonstrated that it:

  • Employs only respiratory therapists recognized by the state for respiratory care competency or credentialed;
  • Maintains 24-hour coverage by respiratory therapists;
  • Maintains specific written procedures for personnel qualified to perform respiratory procedures; and
  • Designates a medical director of respiratory care services.

“Trisha and her staff have done a great job increasing the services provided by respiratory care,” said hospital president Patsy Youngs. “The respiratory care staff is just one example of the overall commitment to excellence across Texas Health Kaufman.”
