Feel tired or groggy during the day? Snore loudly? Sleep restlessly? If so, you are not alone. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recognizes more than 80 disorders that prevent adequate sleep.

Good news. Help is available at a Texas Health sleep clinic. Our physicians can evaluate a patient's sleep patterns in the comfortable sleep lab, diagnose the problem and provide the appropriate treatment.

Sleep Medicine for a Wide Range of Disorders

A sleep study at a Texas Health Hospital may help diagnose:

  • Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA): Characterized by loud snoring, with pauses and gasps that intermittently halt breathing. It is associated with unrefreshing sleep, daytime sleepiness, high blood pressure, heart attack and stroke.
  • Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS): Characterized by an irresistible urge to move the legs due to unpleasant tingling sensations in the lower extremities when at rest. It may be associated with periodic limb movement syndrome, a condition characterized by involuntary jerking or bending of the legs or arms at regular intervals during sleep.
  • Narcolepsy: Characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness, muscular weakness when angry or laughing, sleep paralysis and overactive dreams during the onset of sleep. It can develop suddenly or over many years in adolescence or early adulthood, and its symptoms can last a lifetime.
  • Insomnia: May be caused by many factors, including psychological issues, breathing problems and movements during sleep. It is characterized by difficulty falling or staying asleep and by fatigue during wakefulness.
