Texas Health Behavioral Health provides specialty services designed to meet individual needs. Services include substance abuse residential treatment, the Integrative Wellness Center and neuropsychology.
Substance Abuse Residential Treatment
The Texas Health Behavioral Health residential substance abuse treatment program initiates the process of recovery from drug and alcohol addictions and encompasses a comprehensive treatment plan specific to the medical, emotional and social needs of each individual.
This level of care provides patients with an extended stay, usually ranging from 14 to 28 days. It is designed for individuals who require 24-hour care and support but do not require medical detoxification. This proactive approach includes individual and group counseling, family intervention, addiction education, physical education and exercise and medical stabilization, utilizing the twelve step model of recovery.
Neuropsychology services allows the patient’s neurologist, neurosurgeon or primary care physician to request an assessment to help determine the brain’s ability to function in areas such as problem solving, language, memory, sensory perception and emotion.
The neuropsychology department is trained in assessing patients suffering with: memory decline (dementia), stroke, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, seizure disorders, head injuries, multiple sclerosis, brain tumors, toxic or other encephalopathy, as well as preparation for bariatric surgery.
Evaluations are tailored to the specific referral depending on the need. Recommendations may include:
- Cognitive rehabilitation
- Individual and family counseling
- Support groups
- Stress management and relaxation
- Referral for psychiatric medications
Biofeedback uses equipment to measure the biological processes related to stress and chronic medical conditions. Muscle tension, blood flow, skin temperature and breathing patterns are common examples of issues that can be managed when patients learn to establish a level of control over their mind and body.
Memory Clinic for Alzheimer's Patients
This dedicated clinic evaluates possible causes and treatments for memory loss. Physicians and neuropsychologists work together to diagnose, develop treatment options and educate patients and their families.
