Self-Service Cost Estimate

Texas Health offers an online, self-service cost estimate tool where you can search for the cost of common services. The cost estimate tool can also provide you with an estimated dollar amount you will owe for your specific hospital service based on your insurance or healthcare coverage and other factors.

Estimates provided are just that — estimates. They are not a guarantee of what you will owe.

Your actual hospital expenses may differ from your estimate for many reasons, such as:

•   Your insurance and other coverage limits (deductibles, coinsurance, copayment, etc.)
•   Your specific health condition
•   Changes from initial request for service/procedure
•   Time spent in surgery and recovery
•   Your length of stay
•   Specific equipment, supplies, drugs, and/or implants used for your care
•   Unexpected additional tests, procedures or issues identified by the physician/surgeon during your care, or changes to procedures you receive.

Frequently Asked Questions
  • What is price transparency?

Texas Health is committed to helping you understand your healthcare costs. With more transparency about the costs for services, you can make more informed decisions about your healthcare and be better prepared for your financial responsibility for services received.

To help you obtain a cost estimate of your out-of-pocket hospital costs (what you owe after insurance or other coverage), please call 877-773-2368, Option 3, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. You can speak directly with a financial counselor who can provide a personalized cost estimate. We also offer a self-service online cost-estimate tool.

  • How do I obtain a cost estimate?

The first step in obtaining an estimate is to select the hospital you would like to visit. For the following hospitals, you will be directed to another website to obtain a cost estimate:

For all other Texas Health hospitals, the cost estimate tool is in MyChart, Texas Health’s online patient portal.

    • If you have an existing MyChart account, we encourage you to log into your account to get the most accurate cost estimate.
    • A MyChart account is not required to obtain an estimate and you may continue as a guest.
    • If you would like to create a MyChart account, you can create one here before beginning the cost estimate process.
  • What information do I need to get a cost estimate in MyChart?

To get the most out of our cost estimate tool, you will need the following information:

    • The Texas Health hospital you would like to visit
    • Name of procedure or specific procedure (CPT) codes
    • Name of insurance company or other coverage
    • Group plan number
    • Subscriber ID number

Note: Logging into your personal MyChart account will give you the most accurate cost estimate, but you may also get an estimate as a guest. You may also get a cost estimate if you do not have insurance or other coverage.

If you do not have insurance or other coverage accepted by Texas Health, or you have insurance or other coverage and do not want to use it, please call 877-773-2368, Option 3, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday to obtain a cost estimate.

  • What does the cost estimate include?

The cost estimate is provided to help you plan and prepare for an upcoming hospital service or procedure. It is not a guarantee of what you will owe.

After entering your information into the cost estimate tool, you will receive an estimate for the costs you will be financially responsible for after receiving hospital services. The estimate you receive is not a guarantee of the final dollar amount you will be financially responsible for after receiving services.

Your actual hospital out-of-pocket costs (what you owe after insurance or other coverage) may be higher or lower than the estimate provided as many factors impact the total amount due. These factors could include:

    • Your insurance and other coverage limits (deductibles, coinsurance, copayment, etc.)
    • Your specific health condition
    • Changes from initial request for service/procedure
    • Time spent in surgery and recovery
    • Your length of stay
    • Specific equipment, supplies, drugs, and/or implants used for your care
    • Unexpected additional tests, procedures or issues identified by the physician/surgeon during your care, or changes to procedures you receive.

The estimate will include amounts you owe the Hospital only. The estimate may contain "Co-Provider" information based on information received by your physician or provider group. If you have questions about a Co-Provider physician or provider group estimate, please contact them directly. Other physicians or providers other professional fees may include (but not limited to):

    • Physicians, other health care providers or other professional fees or charges
    • Emergency room physicians
    • Radiologists (Examples: physicians who interpret X-rays, MRI, CT, ultrasound)
    • Pathologists (Examples: physicians who examine body tissues and body fluids)
    • Cardiologists (Examples: physicians who treat heart and blood vessel conditions)
    • Neonatologists (Examples: physicians who treat newborns in the neonatal intensive care unit)
    • Anesthesiologists (Examples: physicians who administer general/regional anesthesia and pain management)
    • Other consulting physicians

These providers are independent from the hospital and bill separately for their services.

Please note that not all services are available at all Texas Health hospitals.

  • What if I need more information than the cost estimate tool provides?

Please call 877-773-2368, Option 3, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, to speak to a financial counselor.
