The Effects of Obesity in the Aged- Ages 65-75

This research study investigates the effects of obesity and aging on lung function, exercise capacity, and breathlessness during exercise.
Participants will receive testing at no cost, including:
- Body composition test results
- Pulmonary function test results
- Exercise capacity test results
- Compensation for participant’s time
Qualifications for this research study are:
- Men or Women 65 to 75 years old
- Non-obese or mildly to moderately obese
- Non-smoker without asthma, diabetes, or heart or lung disease

Breathing Limitations in Children with High Weight - Ages 8-12

This research study investigates whether breathing limitations, breathlessness on exertion and exercise intolerance are greater in overweight children as compared with normal weight children.
Participants will receive testing at no cost, including:
- Pulmonary function tests
- Exercise tests
- Compensation for participant’s time
- DEXA scan for body composition
Qualifications for this research study are:
- Boys and Girls 8 - 12 years old
- Able to ride on an exercise bike
- Able to follow directions
- No heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, no sleep apnea
