The mission of the Academic Partnerships & Grants team, part of Texas Health Resources University, is to engage in strategic academic partnerships and grant activities that help Texas Health Resources build its future workforce while reinforcing the system as a committed community organization.

Affiliation Agreements

Students whose academic programs require hands-on, practical experience are potentially able to acquire it at a Texas Health wholly owned entity if a signed affiliation agreement is in place. Texas Health Resources has affiliation agreements with numerous colleges and universities.

Affiliation Agreement Process

The process begins with the student securing a preceptor who is a Texas Health employee. Follow this link to see a listing of system locations. It is the student’s responsibility to secure a preceptor.

The Texas Health preceptor then must determine whether an affiliation agreement is already in place with the system and the student’s college/university. Follow this link to review a list of current affiliations.

If an affiliation agreement is in place, then the Texas Health preceptor should contact their entity's THRU Clinical Rotations Coordinator; this information also can be found on MyTexasHealth.

If an affiliation agreement is not in place, then the Texas Health preceptor can initiate the process; details are available for the preceptor on MyTexasHealth.

Clinical rotation requests for Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants & Medical Assistants require a three-way, system-wide agreement with the College/University, Texas Health Resources and Texas Health Physicians Group, or other approved provider group.

For questions, please email: THRAffiliationAgreements@TexasHealth.org.

Student Onboarding

For compliance and legal reasons, before clinical rotations, all students must be on-boarded in consultation with their entity’s Texas Health Resources University Clinical Rotations Coordinator.

The onboarding timeframe for students in the hospital and clinic setting (if all requirements are met, attestation letter is completed by school, affiliation agreement is in place, and placement is approved by Texas Health) is 30 days. We are unable to guarantee a specific approval date if we receive late placement notice with request to expedite approval.

Texas Health is not currently offering independent observer opportunities. Any student activity must be governed by an established affiliation agreement and overseen by school faculty.
