Texas Health Affiliation AgreementsAffiliation Agreements

A partnership agreement between Texas Health & a college/university for students whose academic programs require hands-on, practical experience are potentially able to acquire this at a Texas Health wholly owned entity, only if a signed affiliation agreement is in place. Texas Health has affiliation agreements with numerous colleges and universities.

Affiliation Agreement Process

  • The process begins with the student securing a preceptor who has agreed to host the student(s). It is the student’s responsibility to contact the department at the THR locations to secure a preceptor.
  • The Texas Health preceptor must first confirm if an affiliation agreement is actively in place with Texas Health and the College/University: Texas Health Affiliations

IF employed with Texas Health Resources:

  • Yes, there is an Affiliation Agreement, and the specified program is listed. Send email to: THRUacademicpartnership@texashealth.org
  • If the program is not listed, preceptor must submit an (internal process) amendment request to add the program to the current agreement. (Note: the requestor and or host is responsible in making sure the addition of the program is approved by their entity leadership).
  • No, there is not an Affiliation Agreement. Visit Texas Health Resources University’s intranet homepage on this process.

 Non-THR Employees:

  • Affiliation agreement requests for non-THR employees will be brought to THR’s governance review committee for determination consideration only if:
  • A business case (SBAR) request submitted by the preceptor is complete & signed by the entity president or CNO.
  • The Business Case SBAR must be based on workforce needs and hiring potential.

Student Onboarding

Preceptor's Responsibility: (this process can only proceed if an agreement is in place)

  • The student's preceptor should ensure there’s an affiliation agreement in place and that their department/facility leadership approves the placement--before accepting the student.
  • They must direct the student to then work with their school for next steps, so the school can begin work on the requirements and prerequisites as outlined by the affiliation agreement.
  • For compliance and legal reasons, all students MUST be onboarded in consultation with their designated student onboarding contact.
