2022 was a big year for Texas Health, as we celebrated 25 years of serving North Texas! In honor of our quarter-century milestone, we reached out to the community in a major way to expand access to care, provide community benefits and advance diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.
Each year, Texas Health publishes a Social Purpose Report to showcase our commitment to operating in equitable and responsible ways and highlight the impact these practices are having on the Lone Star State. In 2022, we continued to direct our efforts both in and out of clinical settings.
First, we focused on reaching beyond our hospital doors and enriching our communities. Since 2019, Texas Health has awarded more than $18 million to local organizations through Community Impact grants. In recognition of our commitment to North Texas, we received the high honor of being awarded the American Hospital Association’s Foster G. McGaw Prize in 2022 for addressing community health needs.
Second, we expanded consumers’ access to seamless and safe care by introducing Texas Health Care at Home and six new Texas Health Breeze Urgent Care clinics, for a total of 25 locations and counting. We remain diligent as we identify health disparities and improve quality of care.
We are always building on our strong foundation of clinical excellence and were honored for our work in reducing stroke mortality and achieving top decile performance by the Texas Hospital Association with the 2022 Bill Aston Award for Quality for the third time.
We have also invested in additional security assets and active-shooter training in response to increased violence across the healthcare industry.
Reinforcing our commitment to sustainability, we pledged to increase energy and water efficiency. We know how harmful single-use items can be to the environment. In doing this, we recycled 1.93 million pounds of materials and diverted over 71,000 pounds of single-use devices from landfills.
While many advancements were made in our hospitals and clinics, we also continued to place importance on taking care of our people. Texas Health’s culture is something we are extremely proud of. In fact, we earned the top spot on Fortune magazine’s 2022 list of Best Workplaces in Health Care™.
We also took steps to expand leadership, employee and supplier diversity to maintain our culture of excellence. We generated opportunities for minority - and women-owned businesses and increased representation within our Board of Trustees.
While these results reflect what we made happen in 2022, we know our work doesn’t stop here. That’s why we will continue to put in the time and effort to collaboratively improve the health and well-being of North Texans.
