NICU Location

The NICU is located on the 3rd floor of Tower C.

Visiting Policy

The NICU has an open-access policy for families. Parents are welcome 24 hours a day. To enter you will need the baby’s birth ID band and a driver’s license. You can also get condition updates 24 hours a day by calling 972-981-7611 – please be sure to have your baby’s birth ID number ready to obtain this information.

Additional Visiting Policies

  • After arriving at the NICU, you will be asked to select up to 4 additional individuals who will be allowed to visit your infant throughout their stay. No other visitors other than these 4 individuals and the parents will be allowed to visit the baby in the NICU.
  • Visitors, when accompanied by a parent of the baby, are always welcome other than between 6:30–7:30 a.m. or 6:30–7:30 p.m.
  • Only four individuals may be at an infant’s bedside at any one time.
  • Electronic devices may be used after they are wiped down with a hospital disinfectant wipe.
  • Visitation is restricted for siblings during flu season (October-April).
  • Whenever anyone visits your child, they will be asked a few questions about their health and we will take their temperature to make sure they do not have a fever. Additionally, immunization records for children under the age of 16 will need to be reviewed and placed on file prior to their first visit.

Support for Parents

Parents are considered a vital part of the care team. Key support services for parents include:

  • Board-certified lactation specialists
  • Kangaroo-care (skin-to-skin) education
  • Emotional and educational support from NICU nurses
  • Consultations with a staff neonatologist
  • Peer-parents available for phone or bedside support through our Care Transition Management and NICU volunteer teams
  • Post-discharge follow-up by a staff-development pediatrician
  • Scent cloths are available to keep by your baby when you are away to help comfort the baby.

Monthly Support Lunch

A parent craft lunch is held once a month. This is a time for parents to mingle with other parents experiencing the same celebrations and frustrations and share their experiences. The upcoming date for the lunch will be posted in the unit.

Waiting Room

There is a family lounge with Internet access, TVs, sitting areas, a beverage vending machine and a quiet space for private reflection or consultations with physicians on the medical staff.

Homeward Bound and Infant CPR Class

Prior to discharge, please connect with the front desk staff for the date of the next upcoming class.
