The Academic Internship at Texas Health Dallas provides first-hand experience into the working environment of a healthcare professional. Texas Health Dallas is the only hospital in the Texas Health Resources System that offers Healthcare Management Academic Internships. Some of the departments who participate, are listed under the “Internship Opportunities” sections below. Note that this is an unpaid internship opportunity.

Internship Opportunities for Undergraduate or Graduate Students
Facilities (Not accepting Interns for January 2025 – July 2025)
The Facilities Intern will work within the department spearheading projects to increase efficiency and productivity. Will manage maintenance work orders, answer calls regarding work orders from staff, and look for cost saving opportunities. Must be skilled in the following: Microsoft Office; Data Entry; File Management; Communication Skills.
Duties Include:
- Fulfilling tasks assigned by the Director.
- Performing clerical duties, maintaining files, and monitoring compliance.
- Working with the Chief Engineer to monitor projects.
- Improving workflow processes.
- Attend meetings and take detailed minutes.
- Product/Service development and implementation.
Human Resources (1 intern)
The Human Resources Intern will assist the Human Resources staff with a wide-range of projects and operational functions, including, but not limited to: Human Resource regulatory/compliance, recruiting, on-boarding/entity orientation, employee relations/grievances, and compensation.
Duties Include:
- Provides administrative and clerical support of day-to-day human resource operations
- Performs a wide range of duties relative to the maintenance and processing of personnel records and reports
- Maintains high standards of confidentiality of all employee records and information
- Gains a working knowledge of HR Information databases and resources
- Attends meetings with HR officer and HR Generalist
- Cross-training in different Human Resources roles
- Assists with HR consulting services to employees and management
- Assists with analysis and problem solving (i.e. investigation and research)
- Openly shares new ideas and information with team members
- Other duties as assigned
Information Technology Project Management (1-2 interns)
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, strong organizational and conflict resolution skills and ability to work independently. Ability to meet deadlines and manage projects. Must have strong attention to detail. General knowledge of facility and relevant department operations. Must have successfully completed the hospital orientation. Must be able to lift 40 lbs. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
Duties Include:
- Assist with planning IT projects
- Attend project meetings as required
- Attend IT departmental meetings as required
- Image PCs and Laptops
- Create documentation
- Test and troubleshoot network and PC problems
- Deploy PCs and other devices as required
Information Technology Field Services (1 intern)

Institute for Exercise & Environmental Medicine (IEEM) (1 intern)
Intern will perform a variety of entry-level administrative tasks and special projects related to the research and clinical areas of the institute. They will assist in the coordination of administrative activities and analysis of department systems and procedures and performs related work, as required.
Duties include:
- Assist department personnel in assigned administrative, planning, organizational, technical, and professional tasks.
- Answer and direct phone calls
- Attend meetings and take detailed minutes
- Assist in the preparation of regularly scheduled reports
- Develop and maintain a filing system
- Perform specific tasks related to the actual department vacancy; and performs related duties, as required.
- Maintain contact lists
- Provide general support to visitors
- Liaise with executive and senior administrative assistants to handle requests and queries from senior managers
- Research, compile, tabulate, and analyze data for a variety of administrative and departmental matters.
- Provide suggestions or recommendations with regard to department specific projects.
- Prepare and present reports; draft policies and procedures; respond to requests for information
- Perform general clerical duties such as photocopying, faxing and mail distribution
Heart and Vascular Service Line (1 intern)
Intern supports the Heart and Vascular service line in any capacity needed. The intern will work closely with the Heart and Vascular administrative team and may be assigned projects related to administrative duties, outpatient clinic operations, cardiac catheterization/electrophysiology lab operations, Non Invasive lab operations, or any related areas.
Duties Include:
- Support the Heart and Vascular service line
- Shadowing (learning workflow; looking for efficiency opportunities); Cath/EP labs, Non-Invasive (Echocardiology, EKG’s, Vascular Ultrasound), Structural Heart Center (TAVR Clinic, Mitral Valve Clinic, PFO Clinic, Heart Failure Clinic), Administrative Leaders, etc.
- Assisting with H&V Workgroups (agendas, minutes, action item follow-up)
- Managing various H&V reports/data (Quality and Financial)
- Managing H&V special projects
- Other duties as assigned
Nursing Administration (1 intern)
The Nursing Administration Intern will assist Nursing Administration staff with a plethora of projects, support the general office functions, and perform a variety of administrative tasks. Need to have the ability to meet deadlines and independent management. Must have strong attention to detail and general knowledge of facility and relevant department operations. Must be skilled in the following: Microsoft Office; Data Entry; File Management; Communication Skills.
Duties Include:
- Fulfil tasks assigned by the Director.
- Perform clerical duties, take memos, maintain files, organize documents, etc.
- Opportunities to meet leaders in other service lines.
- Assist with and/or lead projects that may include elements such as data analysis, problem solving, and innovative thinking.
- Attend meetings when appropriate and have the opportunity to recap discussions and provide meeting overviews along with action items for needed follow up.
Perot Administration
The Perot Administration Intern will assist personnel in assigned administrative, planning, organizational, technical, and professional tasks. Attend meetings and take detailed minutes. Liaise with executive and senior administrative assistants to handle requests and queries from senior managers. Research, compile, tabulate, and analyze data for a variety of administrative and departmental matters.
Duties Include:
- Support the Women and Infant Service Line
- Shadowing (learning workflow; looking for efficient opportunities); Perot 4 East Admissions, Labor and Delivery Inductions, Perot Administration, OB/GYN Chairman
- Assisting with Women and Infant’s Work Groups (agendas, minutes, action items follow-up)
- Managing various W&I reports/data (Quality and Financial)
- Managing W&I special projects
- Create documentation.
- Attends meetings with Perot Administration throughout varying departments.
- Assist with operations flow of Labor and Delivery
- Performs a wide range of duties relative to the maintenance and processing of personnel records and reports.
- Assist in the operation and transition of the Perot Construction Project.
- Create SharePoint, PowerPoints, and Excel Spreadsheets
- Other duties assigned.
Safety Department (1 intern)
The Safety Department Intern supports the general office functions and responsibilities of the Safety Department staff including, but not limited to daily facility operations, business analysis, project participation and service development.
Duties include:
- Organization of documentation
- Quality audits of physical spaces
- Scribing for various projects/meetings
- Product/Service development and implementation
- Attend hospital safety and operations meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Supply Chain (1 Intern)
The Supply Chain Intern will review medical supply ordering, receiving, and replenishing processes for Surgical Services. They will look for cost saving opportunities, reduction of unused supplies and recommend new PAR levels.
Duties Include:
- Fulfil tasks assigned by the Director.
- Analyze complex distribution processes.
- Improve workflow processes.
- Order, receive, and replenish supplies.
- Attend meetings when appropriate and recording action items.
- Need to be able to work in surgical areas under pressure.
Volunteer Services (1 intern)
The Volunteer Services Intern supports the general office functions and responsibilities of the Volunteer Services staff including, but not limited to on-going recruitment efforts, personnel maintenance and daily support of the volunteer services employees and volunteers on a full semester cycles.
Duties include:
- Develop communications
- Preparation and coordination of meeting/recognition event materials
- Set-up/Take-down of various recognition and campus events
- Project Management: Electronic record-keeping and Storage organization
- Interviewing/Selection of volunteer prospects
- Implementation of new protocols
- Answering phones, doing phone screenings & setting interview dates/times
- Cross-training in different volunteer roles in order to support vacancy issues

Internship Opportunities for Graduate or Ph.D. Students
Administration (1 intern)
The administration internship offers students an opportunity to gain familiarity with administrative and/or clinical functions in a large healthcare organization. The intern will participate in daily activities of the health care organization at the hospital level and may also gain exposure to the system level through meetings, projects, and events. The intern will work with the hospital’s senior leadership team and complete projects and tasks aligned with hospital initiatives.
Duties include:
- Assist with and/or lead projects that may include elements such as data analysis, communication, preparing presentations, problem solving and innovative thinking
- Prepare and coordinate meeting materials for the weekly Senior Leadership Team and the monthly Leadership team meeting (agendas, presentations)
- Other duties as assigned
Business Development(Not accepting Interns for January 2025 – July 2025)
The business development internship offers students exposure to general office functions and responsibilities. The intern will support the Business Development staff in various duties as listed below.
Duties include:
- Learn TeaLeaves, a CRM platform containing claims data and become proficient in pulling, analyzing and presenting data.
- The intern will be involved in identifying patterns and evaluating business strategies.
- The intern will also be included in meetings where appropriate and have the opportunity to recap discussions and provide meeting overviews along with action items for needed follow-up.
- Ad hoc opportunities on special projects and events will also occur.
- The balance of time will be on other duties as assigned.

- Minimum of 7 months and 380 hours must be completed during the internship
- Minimum of 16 hours per week commitment
- Must be taking classes in an accredited degree program at the time of application or have graduated no more than 3 months prior to the start of the internship

- The application for the July 2025 – January 2026 cohort will open on May 19th, 2025.
To be considered for an Academic Internship, you must fill out the online application and submit two Academic Intern Reference Letters, the AI Agreement, and the AI Availability Form.

Following an application review period, you may be invited to participate in a virtual or in-person interview, depending on the preceptor preference.
Final decisions are usually made within 2-3 weeks of the application closing date.
