Does your baby enjoy squishing and smearing food as much as eating it? Does the food that makes it to his or her mouth seem to come out as quickly as it goes in?
Babies must practice their new skills of reaching and grabbing, and food is an irresistible target. For example, a baby may try to feed himself by sticking some mashed banana in his mouth.
Let your little one participate in mealtime in his or her own way, even if that means wiping down the baby, the high chair, the floor and even yourself afterward. Your baby will get the hang of it all eventually.
