If you and your toddler are watching TV together (an activity you should limit in favor of more active pursuits), take the time to discuss the advertising messages your child sees.
Now and as your child gets older, try asking her what she thinks of the ads you’ve seen together—even something as basic as “Do you think that sugary cereal is good for you?”
Talking about what you’re seeing on screen will help your toddler begin to be more aware of what advertising is meant to do, and awareness will make him less susceptible to the barrage of messages.
