ROCKWALL, Texas — Texas Health Rockwall, a joint venture hospital between Texas Health Resources and area physicians, announced detailed plans for a multi-million dollar expansion of the Rockwall facility. The final plans were approved by the Texas Health Resources Board of Trustees on Monday, February 25. Commenting on the decision, Rey Bosita, M.D., a spine surgeon and chairman of the Board of Managers at Texas Health Rockwall, said that the hospital had grown within its existing footprint but was well poised to move forward with a larger project.
“Now we will take the next step to provide even more services including a NICU and cardiac services to complement the spine, orthopaedic, ENT, urology, robotic, OB/GYN, and general surgery we have on campus.” Bosita added, “We are very thankful to everyone who made the dream of building a hospital in Rockwall a reality, and we are very thankful to everyone who has trusted us to take care of you and your loved ones. This is truly an amazing time to be part of the Rockwall medical community.”
New and expanded services will include a Level 2 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a cardiac Cath Lab, an Interventional Radiology suite, a second surgical robot, additional surgery suites and an expanded emergency department. The project also includes the construction of numerous inpatient rooms and enhancements in ancillary service areas.
Cindy Perrin, hospital president, expressed the enthusiasm felt throughout the hospital. "Our caregivers have been anxiously awaiting this day, especially those who have been with us since our first days in 2007. We’ve always considered caring for our community a privilege, and with that is a significant responsibility to provide safe, quality care in every area of the hospital. Moving forward this project will enable us to provide that same level of care for even more members of our community."
With architectural designs and construction documents moving toward completion the campus will begin to see changes later this year starting with the addition of 210 new parking spaces.
Former Rockwall Mayor and longtime hospital board member, Alma Williams Howard, has worked with hospital leadership to advocate for the expansion. Howard stated “As the population in Rockwall County and the surrounding area continues to grow, I am so grateful we will bring more quality services to meet the needs of our community and at the same time continue to offer the highly professional and compassionate care our caregivers are known for.”
The total expansion project is expected to take approximately three years to complete with construction beginning in early 2020. Updates will be available at TexasHealthRockwall.com and on social media.
