FORT WORTH, Texas — The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) has recognized Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth for the fourth time as a Magnet®hospital — the most prestigious designation honoring nursing services. In addition to receiving re-designation, the hospital also received four exemplars for exemplary professional practice related to nursing satisfaction, core measure outcome for anticoagulation, coordinating care across the continuum and individualizing patient care plans.
There are 490 hospitals worldwide and 45 in Texas that have received Magnet® status. Texas Health Fort Worth joins only six Texas hospitals to have achieved Magnet® designation for the fourth time. The designation recognizes health care organizations for quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in nursing practice. Four other wholly owned Texas Health hospitals — Texas Health Plano, Texas Health Arlington Memorial, Texas Health Dallas and Texas Health Southwest — are also Magnet® recognized hospitals.
"Achieving Magnet status for the fourth time puts Texas Health Fort Worth in an elite group of hospitals," said Joan Clark, D.N.P., R.N., NEA-BC, CENP, FACHE, FAAN, executive vice president and Texas Health chief nurse executive. "From pioneering a new care model for stroke and conducting impactful research to receiving a Beacon Award and advancing professionalism, I am so proud of the dedication to nursing excellence at Texas Health Fort Worth."
A Magnet®-designated hospital is recognized for its "magnetic" nursing environment where nurses and clinical staff work collaboratively within a positive culture that supports new ideas and evidence-based work practices. Although Magnet® is a program designed for the recognition of nurses, the entire interdisciplinary care team plays a valuable part in attaining the Magnet® designation.
"Without the support and commitment of all caregivers at Texas Health Fort Worth, including nurses, physicians on the medical staff and ancillary staff, we could never have achieved this prestigious recognition," said Elaine Nelson, D.N.P., R.N., NEA-BC, CENP, chief nursing officer. "I am honored to serve at a four-time designated Magnet® hospital alongside such compassionate and skilled nurses and caregivers."
For consumers, having a Magnet®-designated hospital nearby means that when care is needed, they can expect a safe and quality experience every time. Consumers have come to rely on Magnet® designation as the ultimate credential for high quality nursing, according to ANCC.
