ROCKWALL, Texas — The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently updated its Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings for 2020, ranking Texas Health Hospital Rockwall among the top ten percent of the more than 4,500 hospitals reviewed nationwide.
Within the United States, only 407 hospitals earned the maximum 5-star rating that Texas Health Rockwall achieved, and perhaps even more notable – no other hospital within a 25 mile radius of Texas Health Rockwall even earned four stars.
"Safe, quality care is our first priority,” said Cindy Perrin, President of Texas Health Rockwall. “I am so very proud of all of our caregivers for earning this exceptional distinction. This 5 Star rating is a reflection of their absolute dedication to quality care and also their unrelenting passion for caring for our beloved community."
The Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings, which are located on CMS’ popular Hospital Compare website, are designed to help patients and their families learn about the quality of hospitals, compare facilities in their area side-by-side, and ask important questions about care quality when visiting a hospital or health care provider.
CMS assigns a rating of one to five stars based upon on the hospital’s performance across seven areas of quality. This year:
- 228 hospitals received one star;
- 710 hospitals received two stars;
- 1,191 hospitals received three stars;
- 1,136 hospitals received four stars;
- 407 hospitals received five stars.

“This is exciting news for Rockwall and our surrounding communities,” said Tami Hawkins, Vice President of Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer. “Our patients, visitors and guests come to us for many different reasons and may receive care in any of several departments during their stay. This five star rating shows the level of dedication and commitment each of our amazing caregivers show each patient.”
The announcement of the five star rating comes on the heels of Texas Health Rockwall’s recent groundbreaking for a $91 million expansion project that will add two floors to the patient tower and effectively double the size of the hospital. New and expanded services will include a Level 2 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a cardiac Cath Lab, an Interventional Radiology suite, a second surgical robot, additional surgery suites and an expanded emergency department. The project also includes the construction of numerous inpatient rooms; two new parking lots; enhancement of waiting areas, the café, and ancillary services; and renovation of the front hospital entry.
“Responding to the evolving needs of our community is an important part of our mission to provide high quality, safe care,” said Jason Linscott, Chief Operating Officer/Chief Financial Officer. “This expansion will allow Texas Health Rockwall to consistently provide a higher level of care close to home for our neighbors, friends and families.”
Texas Health Hospital Rockwall was also recently honored with the “Excellence in Community Involvement” Award at the Rockwall Area Chamber of Commerce’s Partner Appreciation Banquet. The award was presented for the hospital’s consistent commitment to community involvement and philanthropy as part of its core business values.
