American Heart Association’s Well-being Works Better™ Scorecard recognizes commitment to health

ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Health Resources has earned the Platinum level on the American Heart Association’s 2024 Well-being Works Better™ Scorecard. This national recognition, which Texas Health has earned for three consecutive years, highlights the organization’s commitment to employee health and well-being.

The scorecard, formerly known as the Workforce Well-being Scorecard™, analyzes the latest research and insights from industry leaders to help businesses create a science-backed, employee-focused culture of health and well-being. The tool enables employers to evaluate how their policies and procedures compare with leading best practices in areas such as employee burnout, financial well-being and mental health support.

Carla Dawson, Texas Health’s chief people officer, said the national recognition is appreciated, but more importantly, it validates a healthy work-life balance among employees.

“The American Heart Association’s scorecard provides us with insightful data and confirms the benefits we offer our employees align with current health and well-being initiatives,” Dawson said.

According to a 2023 Zippia report, close to 90% of employees in the U.S. who work for companies with wellness programs report being happy with their job and would recommend the company to others. Dawson said that mindset holds true among Texas Health’s nearly 29,000 employees as well.

“Healthcare is a gratifying career field, especially when we witness individuals survive and thrive after battling a major health condition,” Dawson. “By transforming what might appear to be a negative into a positive, Texas Health continually strives to care for the entire individual — mind, body and spirit — both for the patient and ourselves. It’s vital that our teams take care of themselves as well as our patients and we are proud to offer a wide range of programs and tools to help support our teams.”

With a maximum total of 230 points possible, companies are scored on the following criteria:

  • Leadership support
  • Organizational policies and environment
  • Communications
  • Programs and interventions
  • Engagement
  • Community partnerships
  • Reporting outcomes
  • Health equity
  • Organizational well-being

Recognition is categorized using four levels, with Platinum being the highest with a score of 217 or higher. Texas Health is one of less than 55 organizations to achieve Platinum recognition.
