Train here. This is why.

The Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth General Surgery Residency Program is training physicians to practice medicine now and in the future. This program builds upon the commitment to care established by Texas Health Resources, the highest-ranked health system in the U.S. on Fortune’s 2021 100 Best Companies to Work For® list, and is a collaboration between the health system and the Anne Burnett Marion School of Medicine at Texas Christian University.

This program offers a unique experience for residents. Here’s how:

Anne Burnett Marion School of Medicine at Texas Christian UniversityAcademic affiliation in a community-based hospital. An affiliation between Texas Health Fort Worth and the Burnett School of Medicine empowers residents with access to scholarly activities, a medical library, quality improvement projects, a wellness curriculum and other expertise a resident needs to achieve success. The program’s base in a community hospital allows for broad experience in an enjoyable atmosphere where relationships are valued and quality of life is important.

Focus on evidence-based practice and compassionate care. Residents are encouraged and supported in the pursuit of scholarly activity, research and quality improvement, and are paired with a faculty mentor for all scholarly activity and quality improvement projects. This mentor is tasked with assisting residents in background research, feasibility, IRB approval, study design, implementation and analysis. The program educates residents in the value of compassionate care by emphasizing multidisciplinary team-building and incorporating strong spiritual foundations to support residents as they develop themselves outside of the operating room and hospital.

Variety and versatility. A broad surgical education is achieved by integrating various operative experiences, structured didactic sessions, and mentoring by skilled faculty. Residents experience a variety of rotations and faculty for exposure to multiple cases using a variety of approaches to complete these cases.

Clinical experience. To add to residents’ medical knowledge, diagnostic ability and surgical confidence, the Amon G. Carter Medical Simulation Training Center at Texas Health Fort Worth is available through all years of residency. This simulation/skills center is designed for learning how to navigate transitions of care and is equipped with an ambulance, an emergency/trauma room, operating/interventional room and modifiable intensive care room and an array of high-fidelity manikins, task simulators and staff who are dedicated to high-quality training.
