Thank you for your interest in our residency training programs at Texas Health Fort Worth. We currently offer ACGME-accredited training in General Surgery. The primary goal of our program is to develop residents into highly skilled, thoughtful, competent, and compassionate surgical physicians to expand our community outreach, deliver high-quality, cost-efficient care to those who need it most across the four counties we service in the Fort Worth and Tarrant County area.

Insurance
Health insurance including major medical, life, personal accident, long-term disability, vision, and dental are provided for the resident and his/her family. Medical malpractice insurance also is provided.
Food Allowance
Residents will be provided food for conferences as needed and will be given monthly on-call food allowance based upon the call services assigned.
Retirement Plan
Residents have the option to participate in the employer-sponsored retirement plan (401k). After one year of service, Texas Health will match your contribution up to 6 percent of your pay as long as you contribute 2 percent or more of your eligible pay to the 401k Plan. The matching contribution from Texas Health is 75 cents for each dollar you contribute, up to 6 percent of eligible pay.

UpToDate is available from any computer on campus.
Board Review Course
In preparation for the surgery board certifying examination, the program will provide graduating residents the opportunity to attend a general surgery board review course.
Professional Meetings
Residents are encouraged to attend professional meetings. Allowances are available at the discretion of the program director. Financial support is available to residents presenting a lecture, abstract, or poster.
Coats and Scrubs
Two monogrammed white coats and scrubs are provided at the initial orientation and one additional monogrammed white coat and set of scrubs will be provided for each subsequent training year to follow.
How to Apply
We invite you to apply to our program via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Our program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and adheres to its policies and guidelines. Our ERAS number is 4404800001. Our NRMP number is 2279440C0.

Once your application is complete, we will contact you via Thalamus if we wish to invite you for an interview. Our interview season runs November through December. All interviews for the 2025-2026 season will be conducted virtually.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants will be selected based on preparedness, ability and interest in the program without regard to race, creed, gender or sexual preference. Aptitude, academic credentials, personal characteristics and communication skills will be strongly considered in the selection process.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants with one of the following qualifications are eligible for appointment to the program:
- Graduates of medical schools in the U.S. and Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).
- Graduates of colleges of osteopathic medicine in the U.S. accredited by the American Osteopathic Association on Osteopathic College Accreditation (AOACOCA).
- Graduates of medical schools outside the U.S. and Canada who meet one of the following qualifications:
- Have a currently valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or
- Have a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the United States licensing jurisdiction in which the program is located.
Appointment Requirements
After matching, applicants must:
- Undergo a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening
- Submit to a health screening and provide necessary immunization documentation
- Submit proof of successful medical school graduation
- Meet eligibility requirements to obtain a State of Texas training license
- Supply proof of ECFMG certification (international medical graduates only)
- Provide updated USMLE/COMLEX results
- Sign the Graduate Medical Education Training Agreement
- Attend orientation

How do I apply to your program?
Texas Health Fort Worth’s surgery residency program is “all in” on the NRMP Match agreement. As a result, we only select qualified applications through the ERAS application portal and match through the annual NRMP Match process.
